AWARENESS PROGRAMME

Agrotextiles is one of the growing areas of technical textiles. Agrotextiles is application of textile materials in the agriculture field. With the continuous increase in population worldwide, stress on agricultural crops has increased. So it is necessary to increase the yield and quality of agro-products. But it is not possible to meet fully with the traditionally adopted ways of using pesticides and herbicides. Today, agriculture and horticulture has realized the need of tomorrow and opting for various technologies to get higher overall yield, quality and tasty agro-products. The Agro Textile sector comprises of all textiles that are used in growing, harvesting, protection and storage of either crops or animals. It includes diverse items such as fishing nets and fish lines, ropes, shade fabrics, mulch mats, woven and non-woven covers for crops, bird protection nets, etc., Agro textiles are driving the agro sector profitably by improving the productivity and reducing the need for chemicals.

Considering the importance of technical textiles, SASMIRA has initiated various awareness programmes in the form of seminar, workshop and conferences both in national and international level for more than a decade. Now SASMIRA being designated as lead agency for Centre of Excellence (COE) for Agrotextiles in association with Man-made Textile Research Association (MANTRA), Surat, Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), Navsari, and IIT Delhi as knowledge partner is conducting various seminars as a part of the awareness programme under COE. These seminars are jointly organized with The Office of Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and local bodies.

These Seminars also aims to provide a unique platform to comprehensively address the concerns and bring together the stake-holders viz., the industry, agro products manufacturers, agro processing goods manufacturers, fishing industry professionals, investors, financial institutions, warehousing companies, engineers, technicians and consultants working on all types of agro textiles.
 
 AGROTEXTILE SEMINARS CONDUCTED TILL DATE

SASMIRA had organised One- Day Seminar on Agrotextiles – Emerging opportunities, jointly by Office of Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India in association with FICCI-WRC on 1st October 2008. at Hotel Intercontinental- The Grand, Sahar Airport, Andheri. This was the first seminar conducted under COE Agrotextiles. Shri J.N. Singh, IAS, Jt. Secretary Textiles inaugurated the Seminar with an inaugural speech. Attended by 200 participants viz. producers, manufacturers, Buyers, etc. The products, applications and market scenario for Agrotextiles in Agriculturist Industries were highlighted in the seminar


.A Seminar on Protective Agrotextiles: Advantages & Future Prospects held on dated 6th February 2009 jointly organised by The Office of Textiles Commissioner and SASMIRA in association with Dept. of Agriculture, Govt. of Maharastra, National Horticulture Board & Krishi Arogya and Vigyan Sanstha at Vanamati Hall, Nagpur. This seminar was second in the series of the awareness programme held under COE Agrotextiles. This awareness seminar on Protective Agrotextiles was mainly concerned for the farmers belonging to the Nagpur area. Nine papers from national and international organizations were presented. Attended by over 200 delegates and invitees


.A Seminar on Prophylactic Agrotextiles-Advantages & Future prospects, at NAU Seminar Hall, NAU, Navsari held on dated 25th August, 2009 jointly organised at Navsari by The Office of Textiles Commissioner and SASMIRA in association with Navsari Agriculture University, Navsari. Around 250 participants attended the Seminar.

 

Seminar on ‘Protective agrotextiles: advantages and future prospects’ dated 5th March 2010 at Training hall, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Main dry farming station, J.A.U, Targhadia, Rajkot, Gujarat. Sasmira organized the seminar with The Office of Textile Commissioner and in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Targhadia and Junagadh Agriculture University, Junagadh. The seminar had a good response from the participants. In all there were 200 participants.

 

The one day seminar on Protective Agrotextiles at Hotel Fortune Murali Park, Labbipet, Vijayawada, A.P. on 22nd March 2010 was held jointly by SASMIRA with active support from The Office of the Textile Commissioner and in association with Joint Director of Agriculture, Vijayawada, Dist. Krishna & Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner, Bangalore. The function was inaugurated by Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi, Minister of State (Textiles), Government of India, New Delhi. There were 180 participants for the Seminar.

 

SASMIRA jointly with The Office of the Textile Commissioner organized one day Seminar on ‘Protective agrotextiles: advantages and future prospects’ on 28th October, 2010 at Royal castle, Noormahal, Jalandhar in association with Punjab Agriculture University at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Noormahal. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri Sujit Gulati, I.A.S, Joint Secretary, MOT, GOI. 250 farmers attended the seminar.

 

SASMIRA organised a short seminar on Agrotextile and their products at Kisan 2010 at Pune on 17th Dec’10 at seminar hall no.1. This seminar was mainly to make the farmers aware and encourage them to use the Agrotextile products. The seminar was attended by about 200 farmers.

 

One day Seminar on ‘Protective agrotextiles: advantages and future prospects’on 20th January 2011 at DKTE’s Auditorium, Rajawada, Ichalkarnaji, Dist. Kolhapur was organized with support from The Office of the Textile Commissioner in association with D.K.T.E. Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute’s TIFAC-core in Technical Textiles, Ichalkaranji and Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Kolhapur. Shri Kallapa Awade, Chairman, D.K.T.E. Society inaugurated the seminar. There were 210 farmers who participated in the seminar.

 

A Seminar on Protective Agrotextiles-Advantages & Future prospects, at SVPITM Auditorium, SVPITM, Coimbatore was held on 7th June, 2011 jointly organized by The Office of Textiles Commissioner and SASMIRA in association with Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU), Coimbatore. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. P. Murugesa Boopathi, Vice Chancellor, TNAU, Coimbatore. Around 120 farmers attended the Seminar. The participants insisted upon more focused programmes for Agrotextiles highlighting their usage and techno-economics in their region.

 

SASMIRA had organized one day seminar to explore the enormous potential of Agro Textiles at Dharwad, University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), on 19th September, 2011 jointly with The Office of Textiles Commissioner and in association with University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad. The seminar was well attended by farmers (250 Nos) from Dharwad and nearby villagers.

 

Participation in the Kisan 2011(14th to 18th Dec'11) held in International Exhibition Center, Pune-Nashik Highway, Moshi. More than 53,435 people visited SASMIRA's stall (@ approximately 10,000 people per day) during the five day program. Also seminar program based on Agrotextiles was conducted on 16th Dec'11 at Seminar hall.
 
 EXHIBITIONS
National
SASMIRA participated in Agri-Show Kisan 2010 organised by Kisan Forum Pvt. Ltd. at Pune from 15th to 19th December 2010. The trade fair was an endeavor to bring the farmers face-to-face with innovative technologies in the agriculture. To create awareness among the masses about the Agrotextile products and its uses, variety of Agrotextile products like shade-net, mulch mat, anti-hail nets etc. had been displayed to the visitors. More than 40,000 people visited SASMIRA’s stall(@ approximately 8000 people per day) during the five day program. To make the farmers aware encourage them for the Agrotextile products.

SASMIRA participated as a Centre of Excellence for Agrotech at Technotex 2011 exhibition cum conference on technical textiles held from 25th to 27th Aug'11 at Bombay Exhibition Center, Goregaon, Mumbai. SASMIRA presented on role of COE-agrotech in the conference and exhibited variety of agrotextiles and sasmira's other activities. Approximately 2000 visitors- students, academicians, industrialists and potential entrepreneurs visited the SASMIRA stall.

SASMIRA participated at Techtextil India 2011 from 10th to 12th October 2011 at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai. Techtextil 2011 is International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles & Nonwovens organized by Messe Frankfurt India. Approximately 2000 visitors including students, academicians, industrialists and potential entrepreneurs visited the stall (Hall 5, Stall No C60).
 
International
SASMIRA participated in the technical textiles trade show, IFAI Expo Asia 2011 at Singapore from 21st to 25th March 2011. More than 200 visitors had visited SASMIRA stall. Shri Sujit Gulati, IAS, Jt. Secretary, MOT had also visited the SASMIRA stall. Technical textile testing, agro-products, R&D etc, was queried by the visitors.

SASMIRA participated in the International Exhibition of Textile Machinery (ITMA) 2011 world's largest international textile and garment machinery exhibition held from 22nd to 29th Sep'11 at Fira de Barcelona Gran Via, Barcelona, Spain to get an international exposure in the area of Technical Textiles and also promote SASMIRA's activity globally.
